So lets kick off with the right attitude because this is key to learning a new language like Spanish or learning anything really. Do you really want to learn Spanish or is it just a passing whim. It'd be cool to speak a new language and you could talk about people without them knowing which is sure to impress your buddies. That sounds like fun huh ?
Well no actually it's not really that cool. Other than potentially getting into trouble when you discover that the person you were snickering about in Spanish actually understood you, it is the wrong attitude if you want to be successful in learning Spanish.
Ask yourself what your true reasons are for wanting to learn Spanish, if these reasons seem a bit flimsy then you are probably going to give up learning as soon as some of the more difficult aspects of the language are encountered. People that are fairly committed to something generally have a good reason. In other words, when it comes to a new language, the are going to actually use it. Maybe they have a started a passionate love affair with a Spanish speaking person. Possibly they have gained work in a Spanish speaking country. They have a long term goal that maintains their motivation and focus.
Simply put, no matter how many fancy tricks a course has to teach you, it will not succeed unless your motivation to want to learn is good. That pretty much applies to anything new you are trying to learn.
With this said, Rocket Spanish is a fairly good course for the money you will pay. I'd say it is in the medium range of pricing for language course but it gives you quite a lot for this price. It represents value for money and even overdelivers in my opinion.
It gives you games that help your vocabulary and comprehension. It has grammar lessons and a workbook that takes you through the mechanics of the Spanish language. It's a well produced audio course that corresponds to the lessons in the workbook. Along with this you will also find a good forum and folow up emails that serve to create a community feel and keep you motivated.
Indeed, it is safe to say that the course covers most of the learning modalities that studies suggest most humans respond to when it comes to learning a new concept. It does not include video lessons but this is not a priority I believe, when it comes to learning a language (but it would be nice). All in all, it's a good course that will help you learn Spanish provided you give it a proper go.
